Basque Centre opened an exhibition in Djúpavík 6-8 June 2024

In spite of bad weather the Basque Centre opened an exhibition in Djúpavík 6-8 June 2024, organized by the Icelandic Basque Association, the Albaola Itsas Kultur Faktoria from Pasaia, the Haizebegi Festival from Bayonne and the University Centre of the Westfjords – in the presence of the ambassadors of France and Spain. The program started with a workshop making musical  instruments out of trash in the collaboration of the Factory Art exhibition and the Intelligent Instrument Lab at the University of Iceland. On the second day there was an international symposium on the relationship between Icelanders and Basques in the old herring factory. Intelligent Instrument Lab organized a music program with musical instruments made from trash and the Basque instrument txalaparta and Basque musicians played there together with Icelandic artists. The Basque Center’s exhibition was then opened in one of the tanks of the factory including a reproduction of a “txalupa”, a Basque whaling boat, and Basque “pintxos” were served.  On the third day there was a guided tour to the archaeological site at Strákatangi near Hveravík.
